What is a servo blow molding machine?
A servo blow molding machine drives its hydraulic system with a servo motor that runs only as fast as each movement needs, instead of a pump that runs constantly. The result is precise parison control, uniform wall thickness, fast and accurate movements, and lower energy use. Among the energy-saving options for blow molding, servo drives give the largest saving, at a somewhat higher machine cost, and the saving grows with machine size, as explained in how to choose the right extrusion blow molding machine. That is why Tongda’s large extrusion blow molding machines are built on servo drives.
Servo models by container size
| Model | Max. container | Stations | Typical products |
|---|---|---|---|
| HS II-5L | 5 L | Double | Detergent bottles, 5 L jerry cans |
| HS II-12L | 12 L | Double | Jerry cans |
| HS II-15L | 15 L | Double | Jerry cans, lubricant containers |
| HS II-30L | 30 L | Double | Chemical drums, stackable buckets |
| TDB-50F | 50 L | Single | Drums and large containers |
| TDB-120F | 120 L | Single | Open-top and closed drums |
| TDB-250F/P | 250 L | Single | Drums up to 250 L |
| TDW-350F | 350 L | Single | Large drums and tanks |
| TDB-1200F/P | 1,200 L | Single | IBC tanks, large industrial containers |
When to choose servo
- You produce medium and large containers, where the hydraulic system uses the most energy.
- Uniform wall thickness matters, for example on chemical drums and IBC tanks.
- You want lower running cost over the life of the machine and accept a higher purchase price.
Hydraulic, servo or fully electric?
| Drive | Best suited to | Series |
|---|---|---|
| Hydraulic | Bottles, jerry cans and drums up to 30 L, at the lowest purchase price | Hydraulic machines |
| Servo hydraulic | Medium and large containers from 5 L to 1,200 L, where energy savings are largest | Servo machines |
| Fully electric | Clean, precise production of 10 mL–50 L containers | Fully electric machines |
Applications
Servo machines in this series produce jerry cans, chemical drums, stackable buckets and IBC tanks.
How much energy does a servo blow molding machine save?
The saving depends on the container, cycle and machine size, and is largest on big machines. Ask our engineers for the energy consumption per hour for your own product.
Is a servo machine worth the higher price?
For medium and large containers running long shifts, the lower energy use usually justifies the higher purchase price. For small bottles at moderate volume, a hydraulic machine can be the better investment.
Which servo machine should I choose for large drums?
The TDB-120F and TDB-250F/P are built for containers up to 120 L and 250 L. For larger tanks see the TDW-350F and TDB-1200F/P.
